It equips learners with the skills to design, develop, and deploy IoT solutions by integrating sensors, networks, and devices to collect and manage data.
Learners are trained to support digital transformation by managing IoT data securely and effectively, enabling informed decision-making across smart business and industrial systems.

Learnership Duration: 12 - 18 Months

Notional Hours split into:

Self-paced online e-learning, Virtual Classrooms, In-real-life practical days, Implementing Knowledge in the Workplace, Time Spent on Portfolio of Evidence (PoE), Assessment and Feedback Sessions

Internet of Things Developer Qualification Outcomes

​The learners completing the qualification will be able to:

  1. Deploy complete IoT solutions, connecting sensors, devices, and actuators to wired or wireless networks

  2. Collect, aggregate, disseminate, and store large volumes of structured and unstructured IoT data, including cloud integration 

  3. Integrate IoT data with enterprise systems, such as ERP platforms, to support business processes 

  4. Maintain secure and reliable connectivity across IoT ecosystems throughout the solution lifecycle

  5. Apply APIs to integrate data efficiently, ensuring seamless data exchange and operational continuity

  6. Demonstrate practical skills through workplace processes, including deployment, data handling, and system integration workflow

If learners already have a Bcom Degree, BA business or any other business science degree they can be RPL'd for some of the Knowledge Modules in this Qualification

Internet of Things Developer Qualification Curriculum Content

The Qualification has been structured around the Curriuculum Document as a standard from  Services Seta and QCTO. For you, as a business entity, to claim your B-BBEE skills development points, learners are required to complete Knowledge Modules (KM's), Practical Modules (PM's) and Workplace Modules (WM's).

Knowledge Modules (KM's)

serve as the foundational learning components that provide learners with the theoretical understanding required for effective performance in the role.

Implemented Month 1

NQF 4 (39 credits)

Total Notional Hours = 390 hrs

  • KM 01: Introduction to Internet of Things 

  • KM 02: Computers, Devices and Computing Systems

  • KM 03: Building Blocks of Internet of Things

  • KM 04: Internet of Things Design and Development Considerations

  • KM 05: Data, Databases and Visualisation

  • KM 06: 4IR and Future Skills

  • KM 07: Design Thinking Principles for Innovation

  • KM 08: Basic electronic principles

Practical Modules (PM's)

are designed to develop the hands-on skills needed to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, bridging the gap between classroom learning and workplace performance.

NQF 4 (60 credits)

Total Notional Hours = 600 hrs

  • PM 01: Apply Basic Scriptwriting for Internet of Things Toolsets

  • PM 02: Access, Analyse and Visualise Structured Data using Spreadsheets

  • PM 03: Implement the Internet of Things Solution Infrastructure and Deploy Edge Devices

  • PM 04: Provision and Manage Devices Conflicts and PM PM 05: Solve Problems within an Office Environment. 

  • PM 05: Process and Manage Data in an Internet of Things Solution

  • PM 06: Monitor, Troubleshoot and Optimise Internet of Things Solutions 

  • PM 07: Implement Security Measures for Internet of Things Solution

  • PM 08: Participate in a Design Thinking for Innovation Workshop

Workplace Modules (WM's)

focus on the real-time application of knowledge and skills in an actual work environment, ensuring that learners are work-ready and capable of operating professionally and ethically within the industry.

Implemented Month 1 - 12

NQF 4 (42 credits)

Total Notional Hours = 420 hrs

  • WM 01: Internet of Things Solution Deployment Processes 

  • WM 02: Data Collecting, Aggregating, Disseminating And Storing Processest 

  • WM 03: Data Integration Systems and Processes 

Whilst implementing this curriculum, learners can support development teams by learning how to connect and program smart devices, helping to bring digital solutions to real-world challenges.
